Every time I connect with someone, whether on a coaching call, a Facebook exchange or at an event, they almost always want to know the same thing:

“What am I doing wrong?”

So, here’s the good news:

You’re not doing anything wrong.

Yes, you’re creating your own reality.

And if there are some things in your current reality that are a little
(or a lot) uncomfortable, then you can give thanks.

Because they are there to nudge you toward what you really want:

A better relationship.

Laughing so hard that you cry.

Abundance.

Freedom.

So, no matter what’s happening in your life right now, I can promise you, it holds the seeds for the glorious garden that is the life you want.

How can you water the seeds?

What can you do to nurture them into fruition?

First things first:  have some compassion for yourself.

Develop what the Buddhists call maitri (total self-honesty married to self-compassion).

When you cultivate maitri, it gives you the power to say “yes, I might want to do that differently next time”–without drowning in the abyss of judgment and self-blame.  It gives you the power to act consciously, instead of habitually.  And that’s pretty cool.

And then you’ll have the presence of mind to notice whether you’re caught in one of the 3 big obstacles to getting what you want.

I felt the early morning sun coming through my window
this morning and remembered:  it’s the Summer Solstice!

So I wanted to remind you to tap into the energy of
this very auspicious day.

Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year
in the northern hemisphere (if you’re down under,
happy winter solstice…you are celebrating
the imminent return of the light!)

In ancient Celtic cosmology, Summer Solstice was the
best day for making wishes.  And…here’s the really fun
part.  If the wish arises from your heart and soul, if you
can see and feel it happening,
then it must come true.

The wisdom from all the mystical traditions tells us this
is so.  We are expressions of Divine Essence.  We are
co-creators.  Whatever we imagine, comes into being.
So, if you want to live on a planet where people respect
each other and our fellow creatures, where we celebrate
diversity, where we live in peace, joy, harmony and
prosperity and…all you need to do is see the world of
your heart’s desire.  Feel it in the core of who you are.
And then live out of that place.

Jesus the Christ, one of humanity’s greatest manifestation
teachers, taught “Ask and it shall be given unto you.  Seek
and ye shall find.  Knock and it shall be open unto you.”

So go outside this morning.

Feel the sunshine on your face (even if it’s behind the clouds
or you’re feeling the rain on your skin, feel the sunshine.
You know it is there).

Send your energy into the center of the earth.  Give thanks
for this day.  And feel the smile coming to your face as you
imagine, see, feel, know the desires of your innermost heart.
Send them into the Cosmic Mirror and know they are already
dancing their way back to you.

Here’s a prayer for today:

If I see it, I can create it.
If I believe it, I can become it.

Say your prayer over and over
and over and over today.

Then let go.  And no matter what
appearances present themselves to
you in the coming days and weeks,
keep saying your prayer until you
feel and know that it is true.  Because
the external reality is only an extension
of your inner being.  It will be the last thing
to shift.  You need to trust your inner reality
to be the barometer of how things are.
And if your inner barometer isn’t how you
want it to be, then go back to praying,
imagining, seeing believing.  And have fun
doing it!

Do you know the difference between a fanciful wish and a wish that holds the power to transform your life?

A fanciful wish is a distraction from what don’t like about your life.  It takes off just enough of the edge to keep you in an unsatisfying situation.

A transformational wish, however, makes your dreams come true.  It gives you the power to create magic and miracles because it arises from your authentic desires and it fuels inspired action.

A transformational wish recognizes that YOU have to transform in order for your life to transform.  It implies a willingness to become the person you would have to be to experience what you want to experience.

I drew upon this principle recently to support my daughter Bridget’s journey through another open heart surgery (her 5th).  One of the tools I used to help her was a prayer collage…a visual representation of the conscious gathering of prayers and healing wishes coming to her from all over the planet and an invocation of the powers in the unseen world.

On the prayer collage I included pictures representing the two events I’d heard Bridget mention again and again with joyful expectation:  her birthday on June 15 and our trip to Ireland in July.  We looked at the prayer collage together and talked about those events, and all the love and prayers represented in the collage, several times a day leading up to her surgery.

Thank heaven, Bridget did beautifully during the surgery.  One of the first times she woke up in the cardiac intensive care unit, she whispered “Ireland.”

The day before we went home, Bridget wanted to throw a coin into the wishing pond in the beautiful outdoor garden at Children’s hospital.  When I asked her later what she’d wished for, she said “Bridget in Ireland.”  That same day she threw another coin in the pond to make a wish about her birthday.

Clearly, those two wishes, spoken before the surgery and confirmed after her successful journey through the procedure, had become talismans for her.  She was able to feel what it would be like to celebrate her birthday.  She could envision herself in Ireland. Those experiences became real for her….and they helped her summon the strength she needed to flourish during surgery.

As Bridget’s mom, I had some deep inner work to do myself to prepare for this experience.  It was not enough for me to wish for her to be well.  I had to ask myself who this experience called me to be and where I needed to let go.  I had to recognize (again, at an even deeper level), that I was not in control here.   I had to be willing to change.

Because real magic has nothing to do with changing what goes on in your external reality.  Real magic, the manifestation of miracles, involves changing your inner landscape.  Real magic involves claiming the miracle even when, especially when, the outer reality seems to mock the wishes that come from your soul.

So what are YOU wishing for, Kimberly?

Is your wish a transformational wish?

Does it call you into your authentic self?

Does it challenge you to become the person you came here to be?

And are you answering the call of your transformational wishes with inspired action?

My wish for you is that all your wishes be transformational wishes.

And that you become the person you wish to become in the process of making those wishes come true.

Before I sprinkle a little fairy dust I want to say thank you once more for all the wonderful messages I’ve received of love, concern and prayers for my daughter Bridget. She is doing very well, recovering at home now. I’ve been overwhelmed by the number and sincerity of the emails and Facebook posts. Please know that while I won’t be answering each one individually (there are so many and my focus at the moment is primarily on supporting Bridget in her convalescence) I am reading every single one and they touch my heart!

OK, now for the fairy magic…

Do you ever pray the 5 Directions?

In ancient European cosmology there are 5 directions for prayer:  east (air), south (fire), west (water), north (earth) and center (heart or spirit)

I’ve been praying with those five directions for decades.

Since returning from western Ireland last summer, the landscape of that place lives in my mind and I call upon it each morning as I pray, meditate and set my intentions for the day.

In the East, a rainbow over thatch cottages, and the clean air filling my lungs to remind me that the breath of my Source enlivens me…

In the South, the sun breaking out of the clouds and warming my face, connecting me to the fire in the center of the earth, the fire in my head, the fire in my belly, the illusion of form dissolving in the cosmic flame…

In the West, my eyes looking out from the cliffs on Dun Aengus at the wild Atlantic sea, the blood in my body connecting me with the circle of time…my eyes searching for what my heart knows: that the isle of Tir Na n’Og and my ancestors dance in the misty horizon…

In the North, the energy centers of my feet reaching deeply into the limestone of The Burren landscape, feeling the energy of God moving through the earth that is my body, dissolving the illusion of duality…

In the Center, Spirit flowing through me, dissolving the illusion of ego control, opening my heart, which is connected to The Heart of The World.

Peace of earth, air, fire , water and heart/spirit be with you today!!

According to family legend, my earliest immigrant ancestor, Honora O’Flynn, was an Irish princess born in the late 1600s, kidnapped from the coast as a young woman and traded for a sack of tobacco to become the wife of an English man, William Logsdon.

My daughter Maddie was certainly impressed with the Irish princess part.  Not so excited about knowing that her ancestor was swapped for tobacco.

Honora O’Flynn was a vivacious, spirited, red-headed Catholic whose piety was responsible for introducing Catholicism into the Logsdon-Durbin clan over 400 years ago (if you’re curious about the power of Honora’s influence, consider my grandmother, Melba Madonna Durbin Schneider.  She and my grandfather attended daily mass until they could no longer drive).

I like to imagine that Honora’s resilience and tenacity live on in me and in my children.  I’m sure her strength has been one of the factors in our daughter Bridget pulling through 4 open heart surgeries so far (I also credit Bridget’s namesake, the Goddess/Saint of healing, poetry and smithcraft, whose name means “resilient strength”).

Do you ever consider how the blood that runs through your veins connects you to your past…and to your future?

For me, ancestry is a palpable experience.

When I visited the west coast of Ireland for the first time last year, I felt I had come home.

Maybe it was my Celtic ancestors from both parental lines:  O’Flynns, Johnstons, Walshes, Doyles, McDonalds and Greenes….

or maybe was just the sense of rooted-ness that pervades rural Ireland…the sense that the land exists in a time outside of time. That I could reach into my future and seek some wisdom to guide my present steps.

I’m returning to Ireland this summer with a small group of seekers to spend a week immersed in poetry, song and ritual, connecting with land, sea and sky via treks to ancient sacred sites.

Happy April Fool’s Day!  Are you a Holy Fool? I hope so!

Perhaps that warrants an explanation…

In modern times we’ve relegated April 1 to a time

for practical jokes and “foolishness.”

If you look online for the history of April Fool’s Day, you’ll

discover that in the 16th century with the adoption

of the Gregorian calendar, the celebration of the

New Year was changed from April 1 to January 1.

But many rural people refused to accept the new

date and continued to celebrate in April.  They were

labeled “fools” by those who were more in the

swing with the changes.

If you look beneath that historical explanation of

“fool” however, you’ll find a deeper, esoteric

meaning.

The fool or jester in a court was the truth teller…

the only one who could poke fun at or question

royalty.  Because the fool was seen as crazy

or a little “off” in the head, he got away with saying

what everyone else knew to be true.

Court Jesters, or Fools were living out an ancient

archetype of the Fool or Wisdom seeker… The Fool

goes where others fear to tread.

The Archetype of the Holy Fool is alive and well, and the line between mysticism and madness is still razor thin…

When you step out in faith like the Fool,

others may declare you insane.  And the end result (or what I call “the form”)  is never guaranteed.

What is certain though, is that you can’t be The Magician unless you’re first willing to be The Fool.

You can’t wield spiritual power without stepping, as the Fool steps,

into the Void.  The Void is the space between the worlds.  It’s the place where creation begins. It’s where magic arises.  It’s the emptiness where nothing happens, and nothing is left undone.

The Void is void of reason.

And the call of The void is a call the Fool must answer.

So if someone calls you a Fool, take it as a compliment.  Let it be a reminder that you’re walking a Sacred Path, even if it looks as if the road ahead is actually a drop off the cliff face.

Chinese Philosopher Lao Tsu said this about the Fool:

When the wise man learns the Way,

He tries to live by it.

When the average man learns the Way,

He lives by only part of it.

When the Fool learns the Way,

He laughs at it.

Yet if the Fool did not laugh at it,

It would not be the Way.

Indeed, if you are seeking the Way,

Listen for the laughter of fools.

Laughing on our Way into the Void….
