Do you believe in Santa?

By admin | August 5, 2009

If you grew up in a home that

celebrated Christmas, then you probably

remember how old you were when you

found out the so called “truth:”

There was no Santa.

How old were you when

someone gave you this news?

I was 9, and I was devastated.

It was like the end of magic.

Sometimes I think there’s

a moment in every human life

when we stop believing…not just

in Santa, but in magic and miracles.

We might give lip service to the

idea that we’re part of something

larger, that life is conspiring to

support us, that “it’s all good,”

but do we really mean it?

That’s the real test.

Not what you say, but

how you live your life.

Do you risk danger to

satisfy your soul, or do you

do what people expect of you?

Are you taking steps to

put your dreams into action,

or, deep down, do you

really believe that dreams are

for someone else, and that you

need to settle?

I know, sometimes it seems dangerous to dream.

A recipe for disappointment.

I mean, how many times have you heard:

“That would never work because….”

“What do you mean you want to do

something else? You already have

a great job with a good salary! Think

about all those people who are working

twice as hard for less money.  Be grateful

for what you have.”

“Well, it’s a nice idea, but it’s just not

practical because…”

“That’s not how it’s done.”

“But you’re good at this.  Why would

you want to do something else?”

“Who the hell do you think you are, anyway?”

I heard all of those things, many times.

I even found myself beginning to believe them.

So what happened?

I’m not sure why I didn’t just capitulate

to the naysayers and the dream killers.

I Thank God.  I thank Grace.  I thank the parents

who raised me to believe I could do anything.

Something in me was stronger than

all the reasons I was given to stay small.

Something in me said:

I have to believe I can create a life of meaning.

I am capable of more.

I know I have something bigger to give.

I was not willing to live

in a world without magic,

and I hope you aren’t either.

We are here to create magic

and miracles, to live abundantly,

to share hope and to offer

our greatest gifts to the world.

With little more than that belief,

I left a job that was killing me and

started on a new path that led me

to where I am today.

Doing what I love.

Speaking, teaching, writing.

Launching a weekly radio show

and mapping out a TV program.

Coaching others to fulfill their dreams.

Yes, there is a Santa Claus.

Can you believe again?

Abundant Blessings,
