Sometimes, I feel frustrated. Helpless. Out of control.
My inner power is nowhere to be found.
Whenever that happens, it’s a sure sign I’ve been
placing most of my attention on my outer reality, to the
detriment of my inner life.
Life has shown me, again and again, that while I may
not have control over anything, I can profoundly influence
how I experience the world via some conscious choices.
So when I start freaking out about things like politics,
or my relationships, or climate change, or whatever, I’ve
learned to course correct.
Because no matter how important something may be,
freaking out and feeling disempowered helps nothing and no one.
Here are a few things that help me move back
into my center:
Take a media fast. Set clear limits on what your mind
ingests for a while. Maybe you take a day away from news each
week. Or for certain time periods each day (when you first wake
up and for a couple of hours before bed, for instance).
Or you can get really crazy and avoid the “news” for a few weeks
(or longer). You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel.
And when you decide to let it in again, you will probably
be more discerning about how you do that.
Invest in silence and solitude. Forget about finishing
the to do list and taking care of everyone else’s needs
for a bit. You’ll never process all the information, or
meet all of the needs, and the noise will never stop on
its own. Only you can set some boundaries and protect
some quiet time with yourself as sacred. You’ll be amazed
at what bubbles up to the surface when the external
distractions and the mind chatter subside. Go ahead,
make a daily, quiet date with yourself. You’re worth it.
Move. Walk. Stretch. Dance. Cycle. Run. Lift
some stuff. Skip. Run. Play.
Go outside. Being in nature gives you glimpse
of the enormity of the universe, while also revealing
the beauty in the smallest, simplest things. Spending
time outdoors, where your senses can experience the
elements, is grounding and centering. And it reminds
you that everything passes. “When despair for the world
grows in me, and I wake in the night at the least sound,
in fear of what my life or my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty
on the water …for a time I rest in the grace of the world,
and I am free.” (Wendell Berry)
Read. Feed your mind with inspiring words.
Rediscover literature. Get lost in a transformational
novel and then ask yourself how it speaks to you. Read
a poem out loud and notice what happens in your body.
“People are hungry, and one good word is bread for a thousand.”
Find Community. Spend time with people who bring
out the best in you, who are making the world anew with
the way they live, who make you laugh and who nurture your dreams.
Do Some Good. Look for ways to make a difference.
A small kindness may have large ripples.
Take an Inspired Risk. Act from the deepest and
most courageous part of who you are. Do the bold thing.
Create. You’re never closer to your Source than when
you are allowing the beauty of the Universe move through you.
Don’t worry about whether you have ever thought of yourself
as an artist before. Solving problems is beautiful. Speaking
an encouraging word is lyrical. Navigating relationships in a
loving way is a symphony. Life is a raucous, riotous, hilarious
theatre. Sing your part. Dance. Speak. Connect. Walk in beauty.
The world is what we make it, my friend. And the life
you are longing for begins inside of your precious heart,
woven by your love and imagination. Live it.
And if you’d like to be part of a community working together to
create a new, more expansive reality, I hope you’ll consider joining
Dr. Samantha St. Julian and me for the last Synergia training of 2017
in a few weeks.
We’ll be teaching a few students (maximum 10 people
per class) how to relieve pain, clear old patterns,
ask more powerful and productive questions, create new possibilities
and even open the door to new realities!
Here are a few of the words participants used to describe
our September Level I Synergia class:
“community” “transformative” “authentic self-expression” “soul reunion”
“awakening” “joy” “intuition” “so much learning” “such a gift”
“we are so loved!”
We have a few spots left; the deadline to enroll
for the class is Tuesday, October 24th.
